Sela Pass is one of the most breathtaking
places in Arunachal Pradesh, India. It is located on the border between Tawang
and West Kameng Districts. This is the place where betrayal, patriotism, love,
and romance meet at the height of 13,000 feet. This place is always covered
with the snow and offering some beautiful and mesmerizing view of the eastern
Himalayan range. It is the highest motorable road in the word. Being at Sela
Pass, you can watch the Sela Lake which is one of Arunachal‘s most beautiful Lake.
The
story behind the origin of the name “Sela Pass”:
It is an interesting story of the brave and
courageous Indian Army sepoy named “Jaswant Singh Rawat” and a tribal woman
named “Sela”. According to the legend, Jaswant Singh Rawat fought single-handedly
against the Chinese soldiers in 1962 during the Sino-Indian war. Sela helped
him every day with food and water. One day, she was shocked to see his lifeless
body and immediately committed suicide. After that, the pass has been named as
“Sela Pass”.

AIR: Nearest Airport is Guwahati (480km from Tawang). You can hire a car
or catch a bus till Tawang.
RAIL: Nearest Railway Station is Tezpur. You can hire a car or catch a
bus till Tawang.
ROAD: By ASPRTC buses and private buses, Tawang is well connected to all
the major cities.
Tip: Always carry woollen clothes and protect yourself from frostiness.
