Save Tourism Campaign - 23rd September 2020

To All Tour Operators & Travel Agents (Active and Allied)

Dear Members,

During the interactive members meeting held on Friday, 18th September 2020, two IATO Office Bearers were given the responsibility to submit a proposal for the 27th September 2020 program. These two office-bearers called a meeting of some selected tour operators on Sunday, 20th September to brainstorm and submit the proposal to the EC. Thereafter, an EC meeting was held on Monday, 21st September 2020 wherein this point was discussed.

A unanimous decision was taken by the EC, which was circulated today morning to those selected members who were invited for the meeting on Sunday, the 20th of September 2020.

The circular is placed below, which is self-explanatory and this is for your information.

With regards,

Subject: Save Tourism Campaign

Dear All,

This is with reference to the meeting held on Zoom on Sunday, the 20th September 2020 regarding Save Tourism. Based on our discussion the proposal was put up for discussion and approval of the EC on 21st September 2020.

However, it was apprised by Mr. Pronab Sarkar and Mr. Rajiv Mehra that during the BOD meeting of FAITH on 21st September 2020, the proposal submitted by IATO has been principally agreed upon. However FAITH is not in favor of protest on the road but the rest of our suggestions like an advertisement in the newspapers, social media campaign, and virtual meeting along with the press will be held.

FAITH will be leading and organizing the proposed meeting with all associations, the date will be decided by FAITH. It will be after the 27th of September 2020 within a week to get maximum mileage on media. The final sketch of the program shall be intimated soon.

Besides,  IATO will separately submit a memorandum with the Ministry and issue a press release expressing our sentiments that Tourism Day Celebration is not for us with so many job losses, distress, companies closing down, but there is no support from the government.

It has taken years to build the image of IATO, we have to be positive and not negative and should not close our channel of communication with the government by coming on the roads.

Therefore, the committee formed for this purpose stands dissolved and the collective wisdom of the EC is that the campaign discussed cannot take place as of now.

With best regards,

Rahul Chakravarty

COO
